ASD+ aspirating smoke detection — ultra-early warning for high-value spaces

Aspirating smoke detection draws air through a network of pipes to a central detector that samples for smoke particles — catching fires before they develop visibly. Used where spot detectors don’t work: data centers, high-bay warehouses, industrial manufacturing, lithium-ion battery storage. Siemens’ North American ASD+ line offers up to 21,500 sq ft coverage per unit — one of the largest available on the market.

Siemens is the first and only fire alarm manufacturer with ISOtechnology built-in on all addressable devices at no extra cost. Competitor systems require separate isolator modules to be designed, specified, and installed on every loop.
A fault on one device does not isolate the loop — built-in isolators contain it at the device level.
Class-X performance comes standard, meeting NFPA 72 Style 7 short-circuit isolation requirements without extra hardware. Lower spec’d parts count, smaller bill of materials on every fire alarm proposal.

System upgrade · End-of-life migration

Running a Siemens MXL system?

Siemens has formally moved the MXL fire alarm platform into end-of-life. Replacement parts are increasingly difficult to source, and continuing to maintain an MXL system means longer outages every time something fails. Migration to Cerberus PRO is the supported upgrade path.

As a Siemens Solution Partner, CAINtech handles MXL-to-Cerberus PRO migrations: site audit, phased panel replacement, device migration where compatible, CAN/ULC-S537:2019 verification, and AHJ sign-off. Most existing cabling and infrastructure can be retained, reducing the cost of the migration significantly versus a full rip-and-replace.

Frequently asked questions

When does a new Cerberus PRO installation make sense vs. retrofitting an existing system?+
New installation makes sense when the building is new construction, when the existing fire alarm panel is end-of-life (most often Siemens MXL or other 20+ year-old platforms), or when the building’s use has changed enough that the existing system can’t cover the new occupancy. Retrofitting makes sense when the existing infrastructure (cabling, conduit, device placement) is sound but the panel and detection technology need to be modernized. We do a site audit before quoting either approach.
What’s the right Cerberus PRO panel tier for my building?+
The tier choice is driven by the addressable-device count. Up to about 50 devices (small commercial buildings, restaurants, small medical offices), FC901 is the right answer. Up to 252 devices (mid-rise condos, mid-sized commercial), FC922. Up to 504 devices (larger condos, larger commercial, healthcare facilities), FC924. Above that, into the thousands of devices (high-rises, hospitals, large institutional), Modular. We size the system as part of the design phase before quoting.
What is ISOtechnology™ and why does it matter?+
ISOtechnology is built-in addressable short-circuit isolation on every major Cerberus PRO device — Siemens is the only manufacturer that includes it standard at no extra cost. On other fire alarm platforms, each isolator is a separate module that has to be designed in, specified, ordered, and installed on the loop. In practice that means lower parts count, a smaller bill of materials, and Class-X (NFPA 72 Style 7) short-circuit performance without extra hardware. For consulting engineers comparing fire alarm proposals, it is one of the recognized procurement-grade reasons to specify Cerberus PRO.
We still have a Siemens MXL fire alarm panel — what are our options?+
Siemens has moved MXL to end-of-life. Replacement parts are scarce and lead times are growing, which means each future repair or addition becomes more expensive and slower. The supported migration path is to Cerberus PRO. CAINtech, as the Solution Partner, handles the migration: site audit, phased panel replacement, device migration where compatible, CAN/ULC-S537:2019 verification, and AHJ sign-off. In most retrofits the existing cabling and loop infrastructure can be retained, which cuts the cost of migration meaningfully versus a full rip-and-replace.
What is CAN/ULC-S537:2019 verification testing?+
CAN/ULC-S537:2019 is the Canadian standard that governs verification of new and modified fire alarm system installations. Verification is the process of confirming that every device, circuit, and interface in the as-installed system actually works as designed. CAINtech’s technicians are qualified to perform S537 verification and provide the verification report your AHJ requires before the system can be placed in service.
Does Cerberus PRO integrate with Building X cloud monitoring?+
Yes. Cerberus PRO Compact (FC922 / FC924) and Modular panels connect to the Siemens Building X cloud platform through the Connect X300 external gateway. Can existing non-Siemens panels be retrofitted to Cerberus PRO?+
Yes, in most cases. The retrofit replaces the control panel and addressable devices with Cerberus PRO equivalents while preserving cabling and infrastructure where possible. The retrofit requires CAN/ULC-S537:2019 verification testing before the new system goes into service. CAINtech provides the verification along with the retrofit work.
